Here are some of the questions people most often ask. Just click on the question you want answered, or scroll through the information below.

  • What does having an advisor look like?

I offer support in several different ways, because the truth is that at different times, you need different kinds of support.

    • Basic advisory support is structured as four 35 minute phone sessions per month. This is supplemented by email exchanges at no extra charge, plus the occasional quick check-in (5 minutes) as required. You take on as much follow-up as you choose, and most of the action/learning/progress happens between the calls. We begin with a three month term that can be extended as needed.

    • Some individuals choose (separately or in addition to the basic program), a single two-hour brainstorming session. These are used to review a particular issue, examining it with a fresh eye; exploring and weighing options; recommending specific resources. Brainstorming sessions can be held over the phone or in person. You have the option to provide background in advance of the session, and you receive a written report afterwards.

    • Vision sessions and strategic plans require at a minimum four 1.5 hour sessions, or a full day working with key-decision makers, in person. You provide background information, I facilitate the dialogue. For vision sessions I develop a mind map report. For strategic plan sessions I work with you and together we draft an actual plan that serves as a 5 year roadmap.

    • I give lecture presentations and design interactive workshops, based on my book The Big Difference: A Study of Small, Significant Things that Bring About Change, Inspire People, Organizations, Cities and the World. The lectures are one to one and a half hours long; the addition of the interactive workshop creates either a half day or full evening event.

    • Custom project advisory services are available for specific initiatives. These are usually longer term, larger in scale and need ongoing or more extensive consultation, including such things as development and negotiation of strategic alliances, market research, concept development, team-building or project coordination. The scope of these projects varies and each is individually designed.

Whatever option you choose, I don’t replace what you or your staff does. I enhance what you are doing, and add the extra clarity, fresh perspective, information and support that makes a critical difference.

  • Who are your clients?

My clients are people who want to make some kind of a change, and are ready to do something about it. They might have already have a sense of what they want to accomplish, or they might need some more clarity before they get started.

Most clients have already achieved success in many areas of their life, but they have one or two that are not quite what they want them to be. Some clients just want to become more aware, more conscious, and open to more possibilities.

    I mostly work with:

    a) Entrepreneurs wanting to improve, expand, or start their own small business, or get more involved in the community click here.

    b) Organizations and associations who are looking for a fresh analysis, guidance, new opportunities, or donation and sponsorship resources click here.

    c) Executives and managers ready to make changes in their business or personal life click here.

    d) People wanting to make a career change click here.

    e) People who want to improve their personal relationships and communication skills click here.

  • What does an advisor provide?

This is different for each client. The words people use to describe what I give them are: getting out of the box, getting out of a rut, support, inspiration, clarity, sounding board, motivation, awareness, wow, direction, acceleration, challenge, ideas, possibilities, energetic shift, reassurance, access, and breath of fresh air.

I am the person who stands by you and guides you, focusing totally on what you need. I call forth what is best in you. I also connect you with whatever other people or resources or information you need to move forward. I help you figure out where to cut back and where to push forward.

For some people it sounds like gentle encouragement and listening, for others it is strong feedback and direct suggestions. It totally depends on what works best for you.

The bottom line? I help you create results that make a difference in your world.

  • Who are you?

I am an observer, a committed listener, an incisive thinker, and a passionate activist.

I am an entrepreneur who has for three decades advised people, companies and organizations on their many and varied roads to success.

I have studied business, organizational dynamics, psychology, design, the creative process and energetics. I am fascinated by the mind and heart of human nature, and the realization of human potential. Most importantly, I never expect to stop studying, learning and growing.

In my capacity as your advisor, I am happy to share all of my experiences at grassroots, national and international levels in a wide range of industries.

  • How long do we work together?

It really depends on what you want to accomplish and what kind of support you want.

Some people want a 2 hour brainstorming session. Some want to sign up for a series of 35 minute weekly consultations. Some want a yearlong partnership. I have worked with some companies as an advisor in different areas and on various projects for over ten years.

Success is not a destination; it is a journey, it’s your journey, and you get to choose how long you want me as your guide.

In our first conversation, we determine a starting time frame together. Then, I simply suggest that my clients stay with me as long as they love what we are doing together.

  • What does it cost?

I work on a sliding scale, in order to make my advisory capacity available to as many people as possible. A diverse background is one of the strengths I bring to you, and it is important to me that I continue to nurture and embrace that diversity. For more information, please contact Krista at kbard@kristabard.com

We determine specific costs in our first conversation, which is complimentary.

Once we complete a service at any level, you may elect to continue or we will simply 'shake hands' and stay in touch. I love hearing from my past clients.

Advisory services are paid for in advance. If at some point during our agreed program, you are not getting value, we will both know it.

  • Why should I hire an advisor?

One of the best parts of human nature is our capacity to dream. Everyone has the impulse to change, and a desire to create something better. We all though get stuck in ruts of thinking and behavior that keep us from getting the results we want. Habitual thought patterns are also part of the condition of being human.

There are people who prefer to address their patterns and work on things by themselves, or with their existing staff, and that is totally fine. Physics however shows that if an outside force acts in the same direction as an object’s motion, then the force speeds the object up. Working with an advisor speeds up your momentum. I help you increase your capacity to move forward faster.

Luke Skywalker had Yoda. Frodo had Galadriel. Andy Roddick has Jimmy Connors. Dante had Beatrice. You would think Tiger Woods doesn’t need a coach, but even he has one.

Would you be happy to have the next five years look like the last five years of your life? Maybe you don’t need or want outside input. Aren’t you curious though as to what you might accomplish if you had someone helping you recognize your thinking patterns, harness your impulses to change, support you in taking action, and had fun doing it?

Let go of wondering what could have been, and let’s start to make it happen now!

  • What is the difference between a coach and an advisor?

Like a coach, I call forth the best in you. As an advisor, I also give you access to information, research, resources, people and tools that you need to move forward.

Because of my real experience in the business world, I can truly say I have walked in your shoes and understand what you are going through.

I know firsthand about the dynamics of corporate politics in a national company. I know firsthand how federal government systems function and change. I know what it takes to turn around a nonprofit. I know what works and what doesn’t work for local entrepreneurs and ecommerce. Been there, done that.

I have had the privilege of working with some of the finest most successful big and small companies in America, grassroots and world leaders, and I am happy to share the insights I have gained with you.

I know the secrets of thriving, not just surviving, in tough times, because I have done it myself.

In addition, I have studied Harville Hendrix relationship dynamics, organizational development, and personally trained with neuropsychologist Dr. Kurt Ebert, the founder of Attractor Field Technique, based on levels of consciousness developed by David Hawkins.

If you get the sense that what you want is a coach, then by all means, hire a coach. If you want more, and you want an advisor, then contact me for a complimentary consultation. It will be a pleasure to hear from you!

  • Can I get a better sense of you?

The best way to get a better sense of my approach to things is to read my book, “The Big Difference: A Study of Small, Significant Things that Bring About Change, Inspire People, Organizations, Cities and the World.” You can order it online and have it shipped to you, or download the ebook.
